This month, we’re featuring a handful of prompts from The 3am Epiphany by Brian Kitely, a book of over 200 writing exercises. If you like these and you can swing it, I encourage you to get a copy.
Today’s ten-minute writing exercise is a simplified version of #64, Phone Tag:
Write a phone conversation overheard by someone in the room. All three people — the listener, the caller, and the person on the other end of the line — know each other well.
Our themes this month are:
- First lines and beginnings
- The 3am Epiphany by Brian Kitely
- Sparks from Japanese literature
- Borrowed forms
We’ll also be writing a complete work of flash fiction together the week of Monday, January 20 – Sunday, January 26. We’ll spend just ten minutes a day writing, and exit the week with a complete work of flash fiction of ~900-1200 words.
No prior prep required, and as always, zero homework.
See you tomorrow for a new day of writing!
